Yummy Apple Slab Pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that features a generous layer of thinly sliced and spiced apples atop a golden and flaky crust. The sweet glaze adds an extra layer of flavor, making it a delightful treat for apple pie lovers.

Yummy Apple Slab Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 box refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on the box
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 9 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (9 medium)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

How To Make Yummy Apple Slab Pie:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Heat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Prepare the Crust: Remove pie crusts from pouches. Unroll and stack crusts one on top of the other on a lightly floured surface. Roll to a 17×12-inch rectangle. Fit the crust into a 15x10x1-inch pan, pressing it into the corners. Fold any extra pastry crust under, even with the edges of the pan. Crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
  3. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Stir in the thinly sliced apples, ensuring they are coated with the sugar and spice mixture.
  4. Assemble and Bake: Spoon the apple mixture into the crust-lined pan. Bake for 33 to 38 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the filling is bubbling.
  5. Cooling: Allow the pie to cool on a rack for about 45 minutes.
  6. Prepare the Glaze: In a separate bowl, mix powdered sugar and milk until well blended.
  7. Drizzle Glaze: Drizzle the glaze over the pie once it has cooled. Allow the glaze to set before serving, approximately 30 minutes.

Tips:

  1. Selecting Apples: Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for a well-balanced flavor in the pie. Popular choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a combination of your favorite varieties.
  2. Uniform Slicing: For even cooking, aim for uniformly sliced apples. Using a mandoline or a sharp knife can help achieve consistent thickness.
  3. Adjusting Spice Levels: Tailor the spice levels to your preference. Add more cinnamon or nutmeg if you enjoy a stronger spice profile.
  4. Glazing Technique: Drizzle the glaze in a decorative pattern for an appealing presentation. A fork or spoon can be used to achieve different designs.
  5. Serving Suggestions: Serve the pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
