Strawberry Cream Cheese Rolls

Follow these simple steps to create a batch of delicious rolls that will impress your family and friends.

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (adjust as needed)

Filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 1 cup finely diced strawberries

Icing:

  • 1/3 cup reserved cream cheese mixture
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk
  • A touch of vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
  • In a mixing bowl, blend lukewarm water, yeast, and sugar. Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes until the yeast dissolves and becomes foamy.
  • Stir in the milk, melted butter, salt, eggs, and 1 cup of flour. Beat until the mixture is smooth.
  • Gradually add the remaining flour until a dough forms. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Let the dough rest for 5 minutes while you prepare the filling.
  1. Prepare the Filling:
  • In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese until soft and fluffy. Add 3/4 cup powdered sugar and continue to beat until smooth. Reserve about 1/3 cup of this mixture for the icing.
  • In another small bowl, combine the strawberry jam and finely diced strawberries.
  1. Assemble the Rolls:
  • Roll out the dough on a greased surface into a rectangle approximately 10×15 inches.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, then distribute the strawberry mixture on top.
  • Roll the dough tightly from the long edge to form a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  • Cut the log into 12 even slices and place them in a well-greased 9×13-inch pan. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator.
  1. Prepare the Icing:
  • Mix the reserved cream cheese mixture with 1/2 cup powdered sugar, milk, and a touch of vanilla. Beat until smooth, adding enough milk to achieve a thin glaze consistency.
  • Transfer the icing to a ziplock bag and refrigerate.
  1. Chill and Bake:
  • Chill the rolls in the refrigerator for 8 to 10 hours or overnight.
  • Remove the rolls and the icing from the refrigerator. Place the rolls in a warm place and let them rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 30-35 minutes, or until set in the center. If the rolls start to brown too quickly, cover them with foil.
  1. Finish and Serve:
  • Once baked, remove the rolls from the oven. Cut a small corner in the ziplock bag and drizzle the icing over the warm rolls.

  • Make-Ahead Convenience: The overnight rise allows you to do most of the work the day before, making the morning preparation quick and easy.
  • Even Slicing: Use a sharp knife or dental floss to slice the dough log into even rolls.
