These Smoked Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs are a delightful twist on classic meatballs, with gooey pockets of smoked mozzarella cheese nestled inside. Whether served as a main course with pasta or as a hearty appetizer, these meatballs are bound to impress.

Ingredients:

  • Grated onion and fresh flat-leaf parsley for freshness and flavor
  • Parmesan cheese and Italian bread crumbs for binding and texture
  • Egg and marinara sauce for moisture and depth of flavor
  • Garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper for seasoning
  • Ground beef for the meaty base
  • Smoked mozzarella cheese cubes for the delicious surprise inside

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and position the rack in the lower 1/3 of the oven.
  2. In a large bowl, combine grated onion, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, Italian bread crumbs, egg, marinara sauce, minced garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add the ground beef to the mixture and mix thoroughly using your hands until all ingredients are well combined.
  4. Shape the meat mixture into 16 meatballs of equal size.
  5. Make a hole in the center of each meatball and place a cube of smoked mozzarella cheese inside. Reform the meatballs to completely encase the cheese.
  6. Spoon 1/3 cup of extra marinara sauce into the bottom of a baking dish.
  7. Arrange the stuffed meatballs in the baking dish and drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and golden brown.
