This Slow Cooker Cube Steaks with Gravy recipe delivers tender and savory cube steaks smothered in a delightful onion-infused gravy. The slow-cooking process allows the flavors to meld, resulting in a comforting and hearty dish. Perfectly browned cube steaks complement the rich onion gravy, making it an ideal pairing with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

SLOW COOKER CUBE STEAKS WITH GRAVY

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 6 (about 4 oz. each) beef cube steaks
  • 1 Tbsp. canola oil
  • 3 c. water, divided
  • 1 envelope brown gravy mix (reduced sodium)
  • 1 envelope mushroom gravy mix
  • 1 envelope onion gravy mix
  • Hot mashed potatoes, cooked rice, or cooked noodles

How To Make SLOW COOKER CUBE STEAKS WITH GRAVY:

Step 1: Prepare the Slow Cooker

  1. Spray the inside of a 3-5 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Place the thinly sliced onions in the slow cooker.

Step 2: Coat Cube Steaks

  1. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  2. Add cube steaks to the bag, a few at a time, shaking until each steak is completely coated.

Step 3: Brown the Steaks

  1. Heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the coated cube steaks on each side until lightly browned.
  2. Place the browned steaks on top of the sliced onions in the slow cooker.

Step 4: Slow Cooking

  1. Pour 2 cups of water over the steaks and onions in the slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender.

Step 5: Prepare the Gravy

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix, mushroom gravy mix, and onion gravy mix with the remaining 1 cup of water.
  2. Add the prepared gravy mixture to the slow cooker.
  3. Cover and continue to cook on Low for an additional 30 minutes.

Step 6: Serving

  1. Serve the cube steaks with the rich, flavorful gravy over a bed of hot mashed potatoes, cooked rice, or noodles.

Tips:

  • Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences. Add herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra flavor.
  • For a thicker gravy, you can mix 2-3 tablespoons of cornstarch with cold water and add it to the slow cooker during the last hour of cooking.
  • Make sure to brown the cube steaks before placing them in the slow cooker, as it enhances the overall flavor of the dish.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated for a delicious second meal.
