Sloppy Joe Grilled Burritos

Sloppy Joe Grilled Burritos are a delightful fusion of classic Sloppy Joes and Mexican burritos, creating a comforting and cheesy handheld meal. This dish combines the savory, tangy flavors of Sloppy Joe filling with the crispy exterior of a grilled burrito, making it a perfect option for a quick dinner or a fun party snack.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef: The base of the Sloppy Joe filling.
  • Salt and pepper to taste: Essential seasonings to enhance flavor.
  • 2 tbsp chopped onion: Adds a mild, sweet flavor.
  • 2 tbsp red bell pepper, chopped: Provides color and a slight sweetness.
  • 2 tbsp green bell peppers, chopped: Adds a mild, tangy flavor.
  • ½ cup ketchup: Gives the filling its classic Sloppy Joe sweetness and tang.
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce: Adds depth and umami.
  • 2 tsp light brown sugar: Balances the tanginess with a hint of sweetness.
  • 1 tsp onion powder: Enhances the onion flavor.
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded: Melts into the filling, adding creaminess.
  • ⅓ cup milk: Helps create a smooth cheese sauce.
  • 1 tbsp butter: Adds richness to the cheese sauce.
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese, additional for sprinkling: For extra cheesiness on top.
  • Large tortillas: Wraps the delicious filling.

How To Make Sloppy Joe Grilled Burritos:

  1. Brown the Beef:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Add the chopped green and red bell peppers, onions, salt, and pepper. Cook until the vegetables are softened and the beef is fully cooked.
  • Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  1. Prepare the Sloppy Joe Sauce:
  • In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, onion powder, and light brown sugar. Stir well to mix.
  • Pour this mixture into the skillet with the cooked beef and vegetables. Stir to combine thoroughly and let it simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
  1. Make the Cheese Sauce:
  • In a separate saucepan over low heat, melt together 2 cups of shredded Cheddar cheese, milk, and butter. Stir

frequently until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

  1. Assemble the Burritos:
  • Lay out the large tortillas on a clean surface.
  • Place a generous spoonful of the Sloppy Joe mixture in the center of each tortilla.
  • Add a good spoonful of the cheese sauce on top of the beef mixture.
  1. Roll and Grill the Burritos:
  • Roll each tortilla into a burrito by folding the sides over the filling and then rolling from the bottom up.
  • Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a clean skillet over medium heat.
  • When the oil is hot, place the burritos seam side down in the skillet. Fry each burrito for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the burritos from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  1. Serve:
  • Sprinkle each burrito with additional shredded Cheddar cheese while they are still hot.
  • Serve warm, optionally with a side of salsa, sour cream, or guacamole for dipping.

Tips:

  1. Prep Ahead: You can make the Sloppy Joe filling ahead of time and refrigerate it. When you’re ready to make the burritos, simply reheat the filling and proceed with the recipe.
  2. Cheese Variations: Feel free to use a blend of cheeses, such as Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack, for a different flavor profile.
  3. Vegetable Additions: Add other vegetables like corn or black beans to the filling for extra nutrition and texture.
  4. Healthier Option: For a lighter version, use whole wheat tortillas and reduce the amount of cheese.
  5. Spice It Up: If you like it spicy, add some chopped jalapeños to the filling or use a spicy cheese.

These Sloppy Joe Grilled Burritos are sure to become a favorite with their irresistible combination of flavors and textures. Enjoy!
