Sausage and Creamy Hashbrown Casserole is a hearty and delicious dish perfect for breakfast or brunch. This comforting casserole features layers of crispy hash browns, savory sausage mixed with creamy cheese, and a rich, seasoned egg mixture. Topped with melted cheddar cheese, it bakes to a golden perfection. This dish is easy to prepare and can feed a crowd, making it an excellent choice for family gatherings or holiday mornings.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 2 pounds sausage (mild or hot and spicy)
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 32 ounces shredded frozen hash browns
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook Sausage: In a skillet, cook the sausage thoroughly over medium heat, then drain any excess fat.
  3. Combine with Cream Cheese: Stir the softened cream cheese into the cooked sausage until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Cook Hash Browns: In the same skillet, add the hash browns and cook until they are lightly browned.
  5. Prepare Baking Pan: Grease the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  6. Layer Ingredients: Evenly spread the cooked hash browns on the bottom of the baking pan. Top with the cream cheese and sausage mixture. Sprinkle with 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  7. Mix Milk and Eggs: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, beaten eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Pour this mixture evenly over the casserole.
  8. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top of the casserole.
  9. Bake: Bake the casserole uncovered for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F and the top is golden brown.
  10. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Sausage Choice: You can customize the heat level by choosing mild or hot sausage according to your preference.
  • Cream Cheese: Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature to ensure it mixes smoothly with the sausage.
  • Even Cooking: Check the casserole halfway through baking to ensure even cooking and prevent over-browning on top.
  • Variations: Add some diced bell peppers or onions to the hash browns for extra flavor and texture.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
