Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings are a beautifully simple yet decadent dessert. The tartness of the apple contrasts perfectly with the sweet, buttery glaze, while the crescent dough provides a light, flaky crust. The soda helps to create a caramel-like sauce that coats each dumpling as it bakes, adding moisture and flavor.

Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings

These Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings are a delightful and comforting dessert that combines the sweetness of apples with the buttery, flaky goodness of crescent roll dough. The addition of a sugary cinnamon-butter glaze and a splash of soda creates a rich, syrupy sauce that elevates this dessert to irresistible heights. Perfect for family gatherings or a cozy treat on a chilly evening, these apple dumplings are sure to impress with their delicious flavor and simple preparation.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple (Fuji recommended, but any tart apple works)
  • 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup (6 oz) 7-Up or equivalent (about half a can)

How To Make Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8×8 baking dish to prevent sticking.
  1. Prepare the Apples:
  • Cut the apple into 8-10 wedges, removing the skin. Pat the apple wedges dry with a paper towel to help the dough adhere better.
  1. Wrap the Apples:
  • Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in a piece of crescent roll dough, starting at the wide end and pinching to seal. Place each wrapped apple in the greased baking dish.
  1. Make the Glaze:
  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and cinnamon, whisking until the mixture thickens and combines smoothly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  1. Assemble and Bake:
  • Pour the cinnamon-butter mixture evenly over the apple dumplings. Then, pour the 7-Up around the edges of the baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
  1. Serve:
  • Allow the dumplings to cool slightly before serving. They are delicious on their own, but you can also serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.

Tips:

  1. Apple Variety: While Fuji apples are recommended, Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples also work well for a tart contrast.
  2. Ensure Sealing: Make sure to pinch the dough tightly around the apple wedges to prevent them from unwrapping during baking.
  3. Alternative Flavors: Experiment with adding a pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a spiced variation.
  4. Serving Suggestion: These dumplings are best served warm, straight from the oven. They pair wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
  5. Storage: Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the oven or microwave before serving to regain some of the original texture and warmth.

Enjoy the comforting flavors of these easy-to-make apple dumplings, a perfect dessert for any occasion!
