Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars are a delectable treat that combines the rich flavors of peanut butter and chocolate with the simplicity of a cake mix base. These bars are perfect for satisfying sweet cravings, and they’re easy enough to whip up for any occasion. The gooey chocolate center and crumbly peanut butter topping make these bars irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15.25 oz) package plain yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 (12 oz) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish:
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  1. Make the Base:
  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, peanut butter, and egg. Mix thoroughly using a hand mixer or spoon until well combined.
  • Press the mixture into the prepared baking dish, reserving 1 1/4 cups of the mixture for the topping.
  1. Prepare the Chocolate Layer:
  • In a small pot over low heat, melt the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir constantly until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  1. Assemble the Bars:
  • Spread the melted chocolate mixture evenly over the pressed cake mixture in the baking dish.
  • Crumble the reserved 1 1/4 cups of cake mixture evenly over the top of the chocolate layer.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the dish.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. This ensures that the chocolate layer sets properly and makes it easier to cut cleanly.

Tips

  • Butter: Ensure the butter is completely melted before mixing with the cake mix to achieve a smooth, cohesive base.
  • Mixing: Use a hand mixer for easier and quicker blending of the cake mix, butter, peanut butter, and egg.
  • Chocolate Layer: Stir the chocolate mixture constantly while melting to prevent burning and to achieve a smooth texture.
  • Cooling: Let the bars cool completely before cutting to avoid a gooey mess and ensure clean cuts.
  • Storage: Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or in the refrigerator for longer freshness.

Serving Suggestions

  • Occasions: Perfect for potlucks, parties, or as a special treat for the family.
  • Presentation: Dust with a light sprinkling of powdered sugar or drizzle with additional melted chocolate for an extra touch of sweetness.
  • Variations: Add chopped nuts, such as peanuts or pecans, to the chocolate layer for added texture and flavor. You can also use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy for a different texture.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars are a delightful and easy-to-make dessert that combines the classic flavors of peanut butter and chocolate. Enjoy these bars as a sweet snack or a special treat for any occasion!
