Indulge in the savory delight of Patty Melts with Secret Sauce, a classic comfort food that combines juicy beef patties, gooey cheese, and flavorful sauce sandwiched between slices of hearty rye bread. Perfect for a cozy dinner or a satisfying lunch, these patty melts are sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients:

For the Patty Melts:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

For the Secret Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp chopped bacon pieces
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp relish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef Patties: Divide the ground beef into 3 portions and shape each portion into flattened patties, roughly the same size as your bread slices. Season both sides of the patties with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook the Beef Patties: Cook the patties over medium-high heat in a skillet until they are cooked through. Once cooked, remove the patties from the pan and set them aside.
  3. Make the Secret Sauce: In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Assemble the Patty Melts: Wipe the skillet clean and reduce the heat to medium. Butter one side of each slice of bread generously. Place three slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  5. Layer the Ingredients: Top each slice of bread with 2 slices of provolone cheese, a cooked beef patty, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread a little of the secret sauce on the non-buttered side of the remaining slices of bread, then place them sauce side down on top of the assembled patties in the skillet.
  6. Cook the Patty Melts: Flip the patty melts over once the provolone cheese has melted and the bottom side of the bread is toasted to a golden brown. Toast the other side of the bread until it is well browned and crispy.
  7. Serve: Remove the patty melts from the skillet and serve them hot. Enjoy the delicious combination of flavors and textures!

Recipe Tips:

  • You can customize the secret sauce according to your taste preferences by adjusting the amount of ketchup, sugar, or relish.
  • For an extra indulgent twist, add caramelized onions or sautéed mushrooms to the patty melts before assembling them.
  • Serve the patty melts with a side of crispy fries, potato chips, or a fresh salad for a satisfying meal.
