Start your day with these Old-Fashioned Pancakes, a timeless breakfast classic that’s fluffy, golden, and irresistibly delicious. Made from simple pantry staples, these pancakes are easy to whip up and perfect for a cozy weekend morning. Whether you top them with butter, syrup, fresh fruit, or a dusting of powdered sugar, they’re sure to please everyone at the table!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter
    • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
    • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add the milk, melted butter, and egg to the well.
    • Gently whisk until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Avoid overmixing, as this can make the pancakes dense.
  2. Heat the Griddle
    • Lightly grease a griddle or nonstick skillet with butter or oil. Heat over medium-high until a drop of water sizzles on contact.
  3. Cook the Pancakes
    • Pour or scoop about ¼ cup of batter onto the griddle for each pancake.
    • Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges begin to look dry, about 2–3 minutes. Flip the pancakes carefully and cook the other side until golden brown, another 1–2 minutes.
    • Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the griddle as needed.
  4. Serve and Enjoy
    • Stack the pancakes on a plate and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Tips for Perfect Pancakes

  • Preheat Properly: Ensure the griddle is hot but not smoking. A medium-high temperature helps pancakes cook evenly without burning.
  • Don’t Overmix: A few small lumps in the batter are okay! Overmixing can lead to chewy pancakes.
  • Consistent Size: Use a measuring cup or ice cream scoop for uniform pancake sizes.
  • Keep Them Warm: Place cooked pancakes on a baking sheet in a warm oven (200°F) while cooking the rest of the batch.
  • Flavor Variations: Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon, or a handful of chocolate chips or blueberries to the batter for a twist.

Enjoy these Old-Fashioned Pancakes as a comforting breakfast staple or a sweet treat any time of the day. They’re quick, easy, and always a hit!
