These Melting Snowman Oreo Balls are a delightful and festive treat perfect for the holiday season. Combining the classic flavors of Oreos and cream cheese, these adorable snowman-themed confections are as fun to make as they are to eat. With a smooth vanilla candy coating and charming decorations, they are sure to be a hit at any holiday gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 36 OREO Cookies (regular size), finely crushed
- 16 oz vanilla candy coating, melted (such as Candiquick or almond bark)
- 48 Mini OREO Bite Size Cookies
- Decorations: decorating icing or gel; multi-colored sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare Mixture: Mix the softened cream cheese and finely crushed OREO cookies until well blended. For a smoother texture, use a food processor to crush the cookies and mix in the cream cheese. This can also be done by hand if preferred.
- Form Balls: Shape the mixture into 48 (1-inch) balls and place them in a single layer in a shallow pan. For easier dipping later, you can stick toothpicks in the top of each ball. Freeze the balls for at least 20 minutes, or longer if needed.
- Dip in Coating: Melt the vanilla candy coating according to the package instructions. Dip each frozen ball into the melted coating using a fork, tapping the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess coating. If you used toothpicks, dip the balls and then gently remove the toothpick, filling in the hole with additional melted coating. Place the coated balls in a shallow waxed paper-lined pan, allowing excess coating to pool at the bottom of each ball.
- Set Coating: Chill the coated balls until the coating is set.
- Decorate: Use the remaining decorating ingredients to create the melting snowman faces. Attach Mini OREO Bite Size Cookies as hats using a bit of melted candy coating as adhesive. Place the decorated balls in the fridge immediately to set the decorations.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the decorated balls for at least 1 hour or until firm. Keep them refrigerated until ready to serve.
Tips
- Crushing Oreos: Using a food processor to crush the OREO cookies ensures a fine, even texture. If doing by hand, place cookies in a sealed plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin.
- Freezing: Ensure the balls are well-frozen before dipping to prevent them from falling apart in the melted coating.
- Dipping Technique: Using a fork for dipping helps control the amount of coating and creates a smooth finish. Tapping the fork on the side of the bowl helps remove excess coating.
- Decoration Ideas: Get creative with the decorations! Use icing or gel to draw faces, buttons, and other details. Multi-colored sprinkles can be used for added fun.
- Storing: These Oreo balls can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
