These KFC-style biscuits boast a perfect balance of flakiness and tenderness. The combination of vegetable shortening and Butter Flavor Crisco provides that classic flavor and texture you crave in a biscuit. The touch of sugar adds a hint of sweetness, making them a delightful treat on their own or alongside your favorite meal.

KFC-Style Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 4 teaspoons Butter Flavor Crisco
  • 1 cup buttermilk

How to Make KFC-Style Biscuits:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. Combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 4 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut in Shortenings: Add vegetable shortening and Butter Flavor Crisco to the dry ingredients. Cut them in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Buttermilk: Stir in 1 cup of buttermilk just until a soft dough forms. Note that the dough will be very loose and sticky at this point.
  5. Knead on Floured Surface: Sprinkle flour over a large wooden board. Turn the dough onto the floured board and knead gently 10 to 12 times or until it is no longer sticky. Re-flour the board as necessary while kneading.
  6. Divide and Shape: Divide the dough in half. Gently pat or roll each half into an 8-inch circle that is 1/2-inch thick.
  7. Cut Biscuits: Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits by pressing straight down. Reform scraps, working the dough as little as possible, and continue cutting.
  8. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the cut biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet with edges barely touching.
  9. Brush with Milk: Brush the tops of the biscuits with whole milk.
  10. Bake: Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Brush with Butter: Immediately after baking, brush the biscuits with margarine or butter.

Tips:

  1. Handling the Dough: Be gentle when handling the dough to avoid overworking, which can lead to tough biscuits.
  2. Flour as Needed: When kneading and cutting, use flour as needed to prevent sticking. However, be mindful not to incorporate too much additional flour into the dough.
  3. Uniform Thickness: Aim for a uniform thickness of 1/2 inch when shaping the dough to ensure even baking.
  4. Fresh Ingredients: Ensure your baking powder and baking soda are fresh for optimal leavening.
  5. Quick Brushing: Brush the biscuits with milk and margarine immediately after baking to enhance flavor and texture.

Enjoy these KFC-style biscuits warm, straight from the oven, for a delightful and comforting treat!
