Jello Pretzel Salad is a delightful combination of sweet, salty, and creamy layers. The crispy pretzel crust, creamy cream cheese filling, and fruity strawberry Jello topping make it a refreshing and popular dessert for gatherings and potlucks.

Tips:

  1. Prevent Soggy Pretzels: Ensure the Jello is partially set before pouring it over the cream cheese layer to prevent the pretzel crust from becoming soggy.
  2. Spread Evenly: Spread the cream cheese mixture completely to the edges of the pan to create a seal that prevents the Jello from seeping through.
  3. Chill Time: Allow ample time for each layer to chill and set properly for the best texture and presentation.
  4. Customize: Feel free to use different Jello flavors and fruit combinations to suit your taste.

Ingredients:

Crust:

  • 2 cups pretzels, crushed fine
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted

Jello Layer:

  • 1 (6-ounce) package strawberry Jello
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 (16-ounce) package frozen strawberries, slightly thawed and sliced in half

Cream Cheese Layer:

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip (thawed) or 2 cups fresh whipped cream

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crust:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch pan.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, brown sugar, and melted butter.
  • Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
  1. Make the Jello Layer:
  • In a large bowl, dissolve the Jello in the boiling water, stirring for 2 minutes or until the Jello is completely dissolved.
  • Stir in the sliced strawberries.
  • Refrigerate until the Jello is partially set. This is crucial to prevent the Jello from seeping through the cream cheese layer and making the pretzel crust soggy.
  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Layer:
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Fold in the Cool Whip or fresh whipped cream until well combined.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust, making sure to spread completely to the edges to create a seal.
  1. Assemble the Salad:
  • Once the Jello mixture is partially set, carefully pour it over the cream cheese layer.
  • Refrigerate until the Jello is fully set and firm.
  1. Serve:
  • Chill the dessert in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  • Cut into squares and serve chilled.

Notes:

  • Ensure each layer is properly chilled and set before moving on to the next to achieve the best texture and prevent mixing of layers.
  • For a twist, experiment with different Jello flavors and fruits to customize this dessert to your liking.
