Hamburger steak patties smothered in savory gravy and onions make for a comforting and satisfying meal that’s both easy to make and full of flavor. This recipe transforms simple ground beef into delicious patties, which are then cooked until juicy and tender, and served with a rich homemade gravy infused with onions and mushrooms. Perfectly paired with rice or potatoes, this dish is a classic dinner option that the whole family will love.
Ingredients:
For the Hamburger Steak Patties:
- 1 lb Lean Ground Beef
- 1 large Egg
- ½ cup Chopped Bacon
- ¼ cup Breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- ½ Onion, diced
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 cup Flour
- Salt and Pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
- 1 Onion, chopped
- 1 cup Beef Broth
- ¼ cup Flour
- 1 cup Water
- ½ tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 packet Brown Gravy Mix
- 2 cups Mushrooms, sliced
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Patties: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, chopped bacon, breadcrumbs, diced onion, and garlic powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Form the mixture into 4 evenly sized beef patties.
- Cook the Patties: Dip each patty into the flour, coating them evenly. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare the Gravy: In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and sauté until softened. Stir in the flour, then gradually add the beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, and brown gravy mix, stirring constantly until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Simmer with Patties: Once the gravy has thickened, add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, making sure they are submerged in the gravy. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the patties to soak up the delicious gravy.
- Serve: Serve the hamburger steak patties hot, spooning plenty of gravy and onions over the top. Pair with hot rice or potatoes for a comforting meal.
Tips:
- Be sure to cook the patties until they are browned on both sides to develop flavor and texture.
- Use lean ground beef for healthier patties with less fat.
- Adjust the thickness of the gravy to your preference by adding more or less flour and water.
- Feel free to customize the recipe by adding your favorite herbs and spices to the beef mixture or adjusting the amount of onions and mushrooms in the gravy.
