Grandma’s Biscuits are a classic homemade treat that evoke memories of comfort and warmth. This recipe, passed down through generations, produces biscuits with a tender crumb and a hint of sweetness. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side dish for savory meals, these biscuits are sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients:

  • All-Purpose Flour: Provides structure and texture to the biscuits.
  • Baking Powder: Acts as a leavening agent, helping the biscuits rise.
  • Salt: Enhances the flavor of the biscuits.
  • White Sugar: Adds a touch of sweetness to complement the savory flavor.
  • Margarine: Adds richness and moisture to the biscuits.
  • Milk: Binds the ingredients together and adds moisture to the dough.

How To Make Grandma’s Biscuits:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  3. Cut the margarine into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or two knives to cut the margarine into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula, until a soft dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently 15-20 times until smooth.
  6. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 inch. Use a biscuit cutter or a floured cup to cut out biscuits from the dough.
  7. Place the biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet, leaving some space between each biscuit.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 13 to 15 minutes, or until the edges of the biscuits begin to turn golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and serve warm.

Tips and Variations:

  • For extra flakiness, fold the dough over itself a few times before rolling it out.
  • You can brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter before baking for a golden, buttery finish.
  • Serve the biscuits with butter, jam, honey, or gravy for a delicious accompaniment to any meal.
  • If you prefer a dairy-free option, you can substitute the milk with a non-dairy alternative such as almond milk or soy milk.
  • Experiment with different flavors by adding herbs, cheese, or spices to the dough for a unique twist on this classic recipe.
