Crispy Cheesy Hash Browns

These Crispy Cheesy Hash Browns are the ultimate breakfast treat, boasting a perfect combination of crispy edges and cheesy goodness. If you’re a fan of crispy textures and savory flavors, these hash browns will surely become a favorite in your recipe collection.

Ingredients:

  • 3 small russet potatoes, peeled
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:
  • Begin by boiling the peeled potatoes in a pot of water for 6 minutes until they are partially cooked. Drain and rinse them under cold water to cool them down.
  • Grate the partially cooked potatoes into a medium-sized bowl.
  1. Mixing:
  • To the grated potatoes, add flour, egg, softened butter, shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
  1. Forming Patties:
  • Grease a 1/3 cup measuring cup and use it to portion out the potato mixture. Form the mixture into patties with your hands. The mixture should hold together easily.
  1. Frying:
  • Heat a few tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully add the hash brown patties to the skillet in batches, ensuring they have enough space to cook evenly.
  • Cook the hash browns for about 3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy. Add more oil to the skillet as needed between batches.
  • Once cooked, transfer the hash browns to a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.

Tips:

  • Be sure to use a fine grater to shred the potatoes for the best texture.
  • Press the hash brown patties firmly together to ensure they hold their shape while frying.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet when cooking the hash browns to ensure they cook evenly and achieve maximum crispiness.
  • Serve these hash browns hot and fresh for the best flavor and texture. They’re perfect for breakfast or brunch alongside your favorite eggs and breakfast meats.
