Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this Creamy Baked Macaroni and Cheese recipe. Perfectly tender elbow macaroni enveloped in a luscious cheese sauce, topped with a golden crust of melted cheese and seasoned panko crumbs. This dish is sure to be a crowd-pleaser at any gathering or family dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb elbow macaroni
  • 1 lb Velveeta cheese
  • 1 cup milk, divided
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Seasoned panko crumbs for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the elbow macaroni until al dente according to the package instructions. Drain well and set aside.
  2. Make Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup of milk and Velveeta cheese until completely melted and smooth, stirring frequently.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked macaroni and stir until well combined.
  4. Prepare Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the beaten eggs, melted butter, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and 1 cup of each shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  5. Combine with Macaroni: Pour the egg and cheese mixture into the macaroni and cheese sauce mixture, stirring until everything is evenly coated.
  6. Assemble and Bake: Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into a well-greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Sprinkle seasoned panko crumbs over the top for a crunchy texture.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.

Recipe Tips:

  • For extra flavor, consider adding cooked bacon pieces, diced ham, or sautéed onions to the macaroni and cheese mixture.
  • Customize the seasoning by adding your favorite herbs and spices, such as dried thyme, oregano, or chili flakes.
  • Allow the baked macaroni and cheese to cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the cheese sauce to set slightly for easier slicing.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven or microwave for a quick and satisfying meal.
