With minimal prep and simple ingredients, this dish will quickly become a family favorite!

Ingredients

Servings: 12

For the French Toast Bubble Up:

  • 2 cans buttermilk biscuits
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup skim milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 5 large eggs

For the Glaze:

  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp skim milk

Instructions

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30-35 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes

1. Prepare the Baking Dish:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Cut the Biscuits:

  • Open the cans of biscuits and cut each biscuit into four equal pieces. Set aside.

3. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:

  • In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Transfer this mixture to a large zip-top bag.
  • Add the biscuit pieces to the bag in batches, seal, and shake to evenly coat the dough in cinnamon sugar.

4. Assemble the Dish:

  • Place the coated biscuit pieces into the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.

5. Prepare the Egg Mixture:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the mixture evenly over the biscuit pieces, ensuring every piece is soaked.

6. Bake:

  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the biscuits are puffed and golden, and the egg mixture is fully set.

7. Make the Glaze:

  • While the dish bakes, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk in a small bowl to make the glaze. Add more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, if needed for your desired consistency.

8. Add the Finishing Touch:

  • Once the dish is baked, remove it from the oven and drizzle the glaze evenly over the top.

9. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve warm and enjoy the soft, cinnamon-spiced goodness!

Tips for Success:

  1. Add a Crunch:
    • Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the biscuit pieces before baking for a bit of crunch.
  2. Extra Sweetness:
    • For a caramelized twist, drizzle maple syrup over the biscuits before pouring in the egg mixture.
  3. Make Ahead:
    • Assemble the dish the night before, cover, and refrigerate. Bake fresh in the morning, adding a few extra minutes to account for the chilled ingredients.
  4. Glaze Variations:
    • Swap vanilla extract for almond or maple extract in the glaze for a different flavor profile.
  5. Serving Suggestions:
    • Pair this dish with fresh fruit or a dollop of whipped cream for a complete breakfast spread.

This Cinnamon French Toast Bubble Up is a crowd-pleaser that transforms everyday ingredients into a show-stopping breakfast or brunch centerpiece. Perfectly fluffy, sweet, and spiced, it’s a treat everyone will love!
