Cheesy Onion Crisps are a savory and crunchy snack that combines the sweetness of thinly sliced onions with the rich, melty goodness of cheddar cheese. Sprinkled with ranch seasoning and baked to perfection, these crisps are a delightful treat perfect for dipping in ranch or marinara sauce. Ideal for parties, game day, or a tasty appetizer, these crisps are sure to be a hit.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large sweet onions
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning
  • Ranch or marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and lightly grease the paper for easy removal.
  2. Prepare the Onions: Slice the sweet onions into very thin rounds, discarding the outer skin. Aim for approximately 16 rounds.
  3. Arrange Cheese Piles: On each cookie sheet, create 8 small piles of shredded cheddar cheese, evenly spaced.
  4. Add Onion and Seasoning: Press an onion round on top of each cheese pile. Sprinkle the ranch seasoning evenly over each onion-topped cheese pile.
  5. Bake: Place the cookie sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 11-13 minutes. Watch closely as cook time may vary depending on the thickness of the onion slices.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the crisps to cool for 5-7 minutes on the cookie sheets before removing them. Serve the crispy, cheesy onion rounds with ranch or marinara sauce for dipping.

Tips:

  • Thin Slices: For best results, slice the onions as thinly as possible to ensure they cook evenly and become crispy.
  • Watch Closely: Keep an eye on the crisps while baking to prevent burning, as cook times can vary based on the thickness of the onion slices.
  • Cooling Time: Let the crisps cool slightly before removing from the baking sheet to allow them to firm up and hold their shape.
  • Variations: Experiment with different cheeses like mozzarella or pepper jack for a new twist on the flavor.
