Cheese Stuffed Meatloaf is a comforting, hearty dish that takes traditional meatloaf to the next level by adding a gooey, cheesy center. The combination of ground meats, flavorful seasonings, and a surprise layer of melted cheese makes this meatloaf a family favorite. Topped with a tangy ketchup or BBQ sauce glaze, each slice is a perfect blend of savory meat and creamy cheese.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup crushed saltines or bread crumbs
- 2 pounds ground meat (beef, sausage, turkey, or a mix)
- 1 egg
- 3 cloves crushed garlic
- 1 small onion, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup ketchup (or BBQ sauce)
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup shredded Colby cheese
- 1/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- Additional ketchup (or BBQ sauce) for topping
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, crushed saltines (or bread crumbs), egg, crushed garlic, chopped onion, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Mix with your hands until well combined, being careful not to over-mix.
- Layer Meat and Cheese: Split the meat mixture in half. Press one half of the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of the loaf pan. Layer the Swiss cheese slices and shredded Colby and Monterey Jack cheeses on top.
- Top and Seal: Place the remaining meat mixture on top of the cheese layer. Carefully seal the edges to ensure the cheese stays inside during baking.
- Top and Bake: Spread an additional layer of ketchup (or BBQ sauce) over the top of the meatloaf. Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked.
- Serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Tips:
- Meat Choices: Use a combination of ground beef, sausage, or turkey for a more complex flavor profile.
- Seal Well: Ensure the meat layers are sealed around the cheese to prevent it from oozing out during baking.
- Rest Before Slicing: Let the meatloaf rest for a few minutes after baking to allow the juices to redistribute and make slicing easier.
- Serve Suggestions: Pair with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
