Candied pecans are a sweet and crunchy treat, perfect for snacking, gifting, or adding a delightful topping to salads, desserts, or even breakfast dishes. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients to create caramelized, cinnamon-sugar-coated pecans that are absolutely irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 lb pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 325°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix the Sugar Coating:
In a small bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Coat the Pecans:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg white and water until frothy and light. This will help the sugar mixture adhere to the pecans. Add the pecan halves and toss to coat them thoroughly.
  4. Add the Sugar Mixture:
Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the pecans and toss until evenly coated. Make sure each pecan is well-covered for maximum flavor.
  5. Bake the Pecans:
Spread the pecans in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 40 minutes, stirring every 10-15 minutes to ensure even cooking and prevent burning. The pecans are done when they’re golden brown and the sugar has caramelized.
  6. Cool and Store:
Remove the pecans from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet. The coating will harden as they cool, creating a delicious crunchy texture. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Tips for Perfect Candied Pecans

  1. Even Coating: Toss the pecans thoroughly with the egg white mixture and the sugar mixture to ensure every piece is well-coated.
  2. Stir Regularly: Stirring during baking helps prevent the sugar from burning and ensures even caramelization.
  3. Use Fresh Pecans: For the best flavor and texture, make sure your pecans are fresh and not stale.
  4. Add Spice: For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or nutmeg to the sugar mixture.
  5. Storage: Keep the pecans in an airtight container to maintain their crunch. They also freeze well for longer storage.
