Boston Cream Cake combines the classic flavors of Boston cream pie in an easy-to-make cake form. The moist yellow cake layers sandwich a luscious vanilla pudding and Cool Whip filling, all topped with a rich chocolate glaze. It’s a delightful dessert that captures the essence of the beloved Boston cream pie.

Boston Cream Cake

Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 1 yellow cake mix (and ingredients listed on the package)

Filling:

  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) pkg. instant vanilla pudding
  • 1½ cups Cool Whip

Chocolate Glaze:

  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk

How To Make Boston Cream Cake:

Step 1: Preparing the Cake

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the cake mix according to the package directions.
  2. Spray two 9-inch round pans with cooking spray and lightly flour them.
  3. Bake the cake according to package directions until golden brown and the center passes the toothpick test.
  4. Once done, let the cakes cool and then invert them on a wire rack to cool further.

Step 2: Making the Filling

  1. In a bowl, beat 1 cup of milk and pudding mix with a whisk or mixer for 2 minutes.
  2. Gently fold in the Cool Whip. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Assembling the Cake

  1. Place one cake on a serving plate, spread the pudding mixture on top, then place the second cake on top.

Step 4: Preparing the Chocolate Glaze

  1. For the glaze, microwave chocolate and butter on high for one minute in a small microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Stir until the chocolate is melted. Add powdered sugar and 4 tablespoons of milk; mix well until smooth.
  3. Spread the glaze over the top of the cake immediately, letting it drip down the sides.

Step 5: Refrigerating and Serving

  1. Refrigerate the cake for at least one hour before serving.

Tips:

  • Ensure the cakes are completely cooled before adding the filling to prevent it from melting.
  • When spreading the chocolate glaze, work quickly to achieve a smooth and glossy finish.
  • Refrigerate the cake for the recommended time to allow the flavors to meld and the filling to set.

This Boston Cream Cake is a crowd-pleaser, offering a perfect balance of textures and flavors. Enjoy this classic dessert at your next gathering or as a special treat for any occasion!
