Enjoy this delightful homemade toffee as a sweet treat for yourself or as a thoughtful homemade gift for friends and family!

Better Than Anything Toffee

Indulge in this delectable toffee recipe that boasts rich, buttery flavors and a delightful crunch, complemented by a smooth layer of chocolate and the nuttiness of pecans. This homemade treat is perfect for gifting or enjoying as a sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish:
  • Spray a 9-inch square baking dish with cooking spray. Line it with parchment paper, ensuring there is an overhang on the sides for easy removal. Spread the chopped pecans in a single layer over the parchment paper.
  1. Make the Toffee:
  • In a heavy-bottomed 3-quart pot, combine the butter, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar.
  • Once the mixture begins to boil, continue to stir occasionally and evenly. Heat until the candy reaches 290°F to 300°F on a candy thermometer, known as the “hard crack” stage.
  1. Add Vanilla and Pour Over Pecans:
  • Remove the pot from the heat and carefully stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Immediately and cautiously pour the hot mixture over the chopped pecans in the prepared baking dish.
  1. Add Chocolate:
  • Let the toffee sit undisturbed for a few minutes. Then, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit for about 5 minutes, allowing the chocolate to soften. Remove the foil and use an offset spatula to spread the melted chocolate into an even layer.
  1. Cool and Break:
  • Place the baking dish in the refrigerator and let the toffee cool completely, for at least 2 hours.
  • Once fully cooled, lift the parchment paper out of the dish and place the toffee on a cutting board or solid surface. Use a knife to gently break it into smaller pieces.
  1. Store:
  • Store the toffee in an airtight container in a cool place to maintain its freshness and crunch.

Description and Tips

This “Better Than Anything Toffee” is a perfect blend of crunchy pecans, rich buttery toffee, and smooth milk chocolate, making it an irresistible treat for any occasion.

  • Use a Candy Thermometer: Ensuring the toffee reaches the correct temperature (290°F-300°F) is crucial for achieving the perfect texture. A candy thermometer is essential for this precision.
  • Stirring: Stirring the toffee mixture evenly and occasionally during the boiling process helps prevent burning and ensures even cooking.
  • Cool Completely: Allow the toffee to cool completely in the refrigerator before breaking it into pieces. This ensures a clean break and prevents the chocolate from smearing.
  • Storage: To maintain the toffee’s crisp texture, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Avoid humidity, which can cause the toffee to become sticky.
