Banana Bread Brownies with Brown Butter Frosting

Banana Bread Brownies combine the best of both worlds: the moist, flavorful goodness of banana bread and the rich, indulgent texture of brownies. These delightful treats are topped with a luscious brown butter frosting, adding a nutty, caramel-like flavor that perfectly complements the sweet banana and pecan-studded base. Perfect for any occasion, these brownies are sure to impress with their unique taste and texture.

Ingredients:

For the Brownies:

  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 ½ cups White Sugar
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 stick Unsalted Butter (room temperature)
  • 3 large ripe Bananas (mashed)
  • 2 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • ¾ tsp Kosher Salt
  • 2 cups Pecans (chopped)

For the Frosting:

  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 3 tbsp Whole Milk

How To Make Banana Bread Brownies:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick baking spray. Line the pan with parchment paper, then spray the parchment paper with nonstick baking spray and set aside.
  1. Prepare the Batter:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs using an electric mixer. Mix until well blended.
  • Add the mashed bananas and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped pecans.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan.
  1. Prepare the Brown Butter for the Frosting:
  • Slice the stick of chilled butter and place it in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
  • Whisk frequently as the butter melts and begins to foam. Watch closely for light brown specks to form on the bottom of the skillet and for a nutty scent to develop.
  • Once the butter has browned, immediately pour it into a bowl to prevent burning.
  1. Make the Frosting:
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar to the browned butter, one cup at a time, stirring well after each addition to ensure a smooth consistency.
  • Add the milk and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer to blend everything until smooth and creamy.
  1. Frost the Brownies:
  • Once the brownies have cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top. Make sure to cover all corners and the center of the brownies.
  • Let the frosting set before cutting the brownies into bars.

Tips:

  1. Banana Ripeness: Use overripe bananas for the best flavor and moisture.
  2. Browning Butter: Watch the butter closely while browning to prevent it from burning. It should be a deep golden brown with a nutty aroma.
  3. Mixing: Don’t overmix the batter once the dry ingredients are added; this helps keep the brownies tender.
  4. Cooling: Allow the brownies to cool completely before frosting to ensure the frosting sets properly.

Enjoy these unique and delicious Banana Bread Brownies as a sweet treat for any occasion!
