Ingredients
- 2 packets of cinnamon rolls
- 4 large apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (or salted caramel sauce if you prefer)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spray an 8″ x 8″ x 2″ glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick spray. A 7″ x 9″ x 2″ ceramic dish also works well.
- Prepare the Apple Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Toss to coat the apples evenly with the mixture.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Roll Layers:
- Unroll the cinnamon rolls and cut them into 1/2-inch strips.
- On a floured surface, roll out the strips until they are thin and fluffy. Sprinkle with additional flour as needed to prevent sticking.
- Assemble the Lasagna Roll:
- Arrange the first layer of flattened cinnamon roll dough on the bottom and up the sides of the prepared dish. Press the dough with your hands to seal any gaps.
- Spread half of the apple mixture evenly over the dough layer. Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of caramel sauce over the apples.
- Cover with another layer of flattened cinnamon roll dough.
- Spread the remaining apple mixture on top and drizzle with more caramel sauce.
- Finish with a final layer of flattened cinnamon roll dough.
- Bake:
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the lasagna roll to cool for at least 30 minutes.
- Drizzle with the icing that comes with the cinnamon rolls.
- Slice and serve warm.
Tips
- Apples: Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples work best due to their firm texture and tart flavor, which balances the sweetness of the cinnamon rolls and caramel sauce.
- Caramel Sauce: For a deeper flavor, use salted caramel sauce.
- Flouring the Surface: The dough can be sticky, so generously flouring your work surface and rolling pin will help prevent sticking and tearing.
- Cooling Time: Letting the lasagna roll cool for at least 30 minutes helps it set and makes it easier to slice and serve.
- Optional Add-Ons: Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
This Apple Cinnamon Lasagna Roll is sure to become a favorite dessert with its delightful layers of flavors and textures. Enjoy the cozy, comforting taste of cinnamon rolls and apples in a new, fun way!
