This classic 7 Layer Salad is a visual feast and a flavorful addition to any gathering. Layered in a trifle bowl or casserole dish, this vibrant salad combines crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, sweet peas, savory bacon, and a creamy dressing for the ultimate crowd-pleaser. Perfect for potlucks or holiday dinners, the salad can be made ahead, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.

Ingredients

Salad:

  • 1 head iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • 2 cups fresh tomatoes, diced, or sliced cherry tomatoes
  • 2 cups frozen peas, thawed
  • ½ cup sliced green onions or diced red onion
  • 8 hard-boiled eggs, cooled, peeled, and chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, lightly packed
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Dressing:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, and seasoned salt. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Assemble the Salad: Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce to prevent sogginess. Place the lettuce in the bottom of a large trifle bowl or a 9×13 pan to create the base layer.
  3. Add Layers: Evenly layer the ingredients in the following order: tomatoes, peas, green onions, and chopped boiled eggs.
  4. Add the Dressing: Spread the prepared dressing over the top layer of eggs, ensuring it reaches the edges to seal in the freshness.
  5. Chill: Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to blend and the salad to set.
  6. Finish and Serve: Just before serving, sprinkle the cheese and crumbled bacon on top for the final layers. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Customizable Layers: Feel free to add cucumbers, bell peppers, or shredded carrots for additional crunch and color.
  • Perfect Lettuce Prep: Dry the lettuce thoroughly using a salad spinner or clean kitchen towel to keep the salad crisp.
  • Make Ahead: This salad is best when made the day before, giving the dressing time to permeate the layers without making the lettuce soggy.
  • Presentation: Use a clear trifle bowl for a stunning presentation where each layer can be showcased.

This versatile and easy-to-make salad is the perfect blend of fresh ingredients and creamy indulgence!
